Bloomberg takes on Washington and stimulus package…

You have to hand it to Mayor Bloomberg.  He is managing to maintain at the very least, an appearance of relevancy.  While it’s anyone’s guess whether or not he intends to announce a third party bid for the presidency (I think his time to decide is nearly up, if not passed, if he plans to win), he’s managed to keep us wondering.  Today he was sounding pretty much like a candidate when he said the stimulus package was, “like giving a drink to an alcoholic”.  Is he right?  You’re damn straight he’s right.  Bloomberg would rather see investment in the repairing or building of, infrastructure.

Last month Bloomberg along with Governors Rendell and Schwarzenegger announced a coalition that would invest in infrastructure.  Apparently at least one of the candidates is hearing Mayor Bloomberg, as yesterday Barack Obama announced a $60 billion plan to invest in infrastructure.  I don’t care whether or not  the idea was ripped off, I have to admit it’s good to hear that one of the candidates is taking suggestions like this to heart.  We need to get to spending some money on fixing our decaying roads, schools and other vital facilities.  That it puts Americans to work in the process is all the better.

While Bloomberg calls his “intrusions” into the political discourse an experiment, I can’t help but think he’s looking for an excuse to jump in.

Obama’s church… why no coverage about this?

Why aren’t we hearing anything about the church (Trinity United Church of Christ) that Barack Obama belongs to?  A church that holds up Farrakhan as honorable.  A church helmed by a man (Dr. Wright) that went to meet with Qadaffi along with Mr. Farrakhan.  As I understand it, Farrakhan was hitting the nutter up for some cold hard cash.  Heck, Dr. Wright even gave Farrakhan his “Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Lifetime Achievment Award, for 2007″.  Did you know that Obama got the title for his book “Audacity of Hope” from his mentor, Dr. Wright?  Now, Dr. Wright is all about being black and being Christian.  I respect him for that, people should be proud of who they are.  What gets me, is the buddy-buddy relations with a guy that calls whites, easy killing, potential humans that have not yet evolved.  A man that refers to Jews, Palestinian Arabs, Vietnamese and Koreans as bloodsuckers.  Someone that has touted Hitler’s virtues as a “leader”.  That sets me back just a wee bit.

Obama has recently been critical of Farrakhan, but it’s only been as a result of people bringing scrutiny to his mentor’s decision to honor the man.  Any white candidate that belonged to a church like this would be run out of town.  So what’s the deal?  Hillary can’t use this stuff… she’d be raked over the coals for it and deemed a racist.  So what about the media?  I hear nothing about this.  Are they going to wait until the general to bring it up?  How will this sit with America?  I don’t know but I can tell you that Mr. Obama should be reflecting on the company he keeps.  Instead of overt distancing, we get a curtain thrown up and a, “Shhhh”.

I’m sure some folks will color this as just a smear, but you can’t fabricate this kind of stuff.  No members of the RNC made Barack join a radical church.  No members of the RNC paid off Barack’s mentor to have dealings with Farrakhan and Qadaffi.  As far as I know, when Barack refers to Wright as a “spiritual mentor” it is of his own accord.  There’s a whole lot of questions to be asked here… and I think somebody needs to address it.
