You know you have to love the Bush Administration. We went to Iraq to destroy weapons of mass destruction and to battle terrorism. We needed to be proactive. We needed to fight them there so that we didn’t have to fight them here. So why should it be any different for Turkey? Why should they respect the wishes of the Bush Administration and the Iraqi parliament and not simply LEVEL northern Iraq? I mean given the Bush mandate where it concerns terror, simply having terrorists in one’s midst is criminal. Â
Bush and Company have long held up Kurdish controlled northern Iraq as the example. This was supposed to be the potential. Funny then that it’s Kurds that meet with Iranian officials and Kurds that sponsor guerilla “terror” attacks into Turkey. While it seems that we have given a nod and some intel to the Turks where it concerns these recent attacks I have to wonder WHY IT IS, that WE are allowing terrorists WITHIN IRAQ (a nation we supposedly control) to launch attacks against an ALLY! It just highlights the utter incompetence of Bush that he cannot even wrangle in a small defacto group in Iraq’s supposed garden spot. I know I’m ranting, but it’s just embarrassing! Our supposed allies in Iraq (Kurds) are launching terror attacks. Does anybody else find that ABSURD?!
The Iraqi parliament on Monday condemned the bombing, calling it an “outrageous” violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. Turkey said Sunday’s attack used U.S. intelligence and was carried out with tacit American approval.
Washington is trying to balance support for two key allies: the Turkish government and the Iraqi Kurds. Despite their apparent support for a limited raid, the U.S. remains firmly opposed to any major Turkish military operation into northern Iraq - which could disrupt one of the calmest areas of Iraq and run the risk of destabilizing the entire region.
God help us all.
