Here we go again. An immature outcast with no life decides it’s time to make the world pay and starts popping off with a gun indiscriminately killing innocents. Typical of such an incident, a voracious media descends to pick upon the carcasses of those so horribly hurt by this pathetic act. We wonder why, as if there is any reason that would justify such senseless carnage. Why? Who the hell cares why? This dysfunctional freak was a rabid animal walking amongst us. We’ll get the standard, “We never saw this coming.” or “He had problems but nobody could have imagined it would come to this.” My how profound.
I know I am coming off like a cantankerous SOB, but really, what’s to be gained from all of this? Ratings for 24/7 news networks that struggle to draw ANY audience at all… that’s likely about it. Time after time, we hear that the reason for such high profile coverage is a desire to “learn”. Right, it’s all about the study of humanity; it’s to raise public awareness. Bullocks. It’s a cheap attempt at drawing in a rubbernecking public that never seems to get enough of other people’s misery.
I suppose for all of the Columbines and the Virginia Techs there is one lesson that manages to get through time and time again. The killer in Omaha (he doesn’t deserved to be named), seemed to learn it well. He confirms that he has learned the media’s lesson well in his suicide note.
Debora Maruca-Kovac told CBS’s “The Early Show” she found the note after Robert A. Hawkins, 19, called to thank her and her family for their help, to express his love, and to tell her he had left the note behind.
“He had said how much he loved his family and all his friends and how he was sorry he was a burden to everybody and his whole life he was a piece of (expletive) and now he’ll be famous,” she said, describing the note.
Congratulations to the media. They’ve managed to make a difference. They’ve managed to educate the lowest of the low on just what it takes to “matter”. Now instead of quietly hanging themselves in their rooms, or blowing their heads off in the backyard, these damaged souls seeking to be “remembered” and desiring to make people “pay”, do so by inflicting hell on the undeserving.
When are we going to say enough? When are we going to demand of the media that they act responsibly? You can cover the news and not the KILLER. Why do we name these animals? Why do we plaster their images on televisions? Through the power of the internet the disgruntled can become indoctrinated by the images of nutcases that went out… famous. Thanks to the reckless actions of NBC News, the Virginia Tech shooter was given a pulpit on which to preach and an immortality. Now it’s this pathetic wuss that is added to the ranks of the weak minded and the cowardly that have been given an avenue to indoctrinate and inspire.Â
Good people dead, and who will be remembered? It’s disgusting. Demand more of the media! Write the newspapers, the cable news outlets and your representatives and say enough is enough. REPORT THE STORY WITHOUT THE GLORY!
