The return of Don Imus

Let’s face it kids, is there going to be anything worth tuning in for on Imus’s “new” show?  Probably not.  We’ll hear about the behind the scenes stuff and how it all went down.  There will be a day’s worth of old man angst to suck up.  Maybe Al Sharpton will be called out as the race baiting bottom feeder that he is (I doubt it), but most of the venom will likely be leveled against his former employers at CBS.  Ah, yet another thing that he’ll have to give Howard Stern credit for having done first.

What I want to hear is how stupid Imus felt while being wheeled around from talk show to talk show, making feeble mea culpas.  I want some honesty.  I want to know how horrendous it is to have to sit across from a bouffanted fat ass, with nothing but racial hatred in his heart and a ready desire to exploit it for a buck.  I want to know how you allow yourself to be painted as a racist, BY A RACIST.  How the hell do you sit there and tolerate that, how do you let that go unchallenged?  My Imus, you were the bad boy (geezer) of radio… and you toppled like a house of cards.  Why?  What was the mindset, what were you hoping to accomplish?  I’ll laugh like hell while Al Roker is raked over the coals for choosing the Rutgers comments you made as the one thing he actually has an OPINION on after thirty years of broadcasting.  I’ll enjoy your trashing of Russert and all of the usual suspects that abandoned your show.  I’ll relish you calling them spineless and pathetic… because they surely were/are.  That said though, don’t spare the venom when it comes to yourself and the way you folded under the pressure.  You were every bit as pathetic and desperate as the people that abandoned you, and hopefully that truth has not been overlooked.

This is America, it’s our guaranteed right to be able to say whatever we like, (no matter how foolish or politically incorrect) so long as it is not “indecent”.  You could have maintained that right.  You could have said it was humor and that people needed to DEAL with it.  Oh you’ll probably say that now, but you should have said it then.  You can wear the cowboy hat, the gun belt and the boots.  You can chew your gum and look incredulously at the world around you.  You can push around your subordinate lackeys and abandon them when it gets a little too hot for you… but in the final analysis it’s all a show, a gag, and a put on.  Man up tomorrow and speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.  Explain how lame you must have felt.  Explain why it is that you were so willing to rollover.  Explain why you gave up on yourself as readily as those “guests” of yours that left you to the wolves.  You’re old, you’re rich… if you can’t do it, who can?  You have a chance to take back some ground and to make it so that even being a hideous monstrosity as you are… you can at least look in the mirror and respect yourself.
