Oh thank goodness. We are all so lucky to have Oprah to save the day. Daughter kidnapped… call Oprah (Elizabeth Smart). Old man makes racist comments about you and your basketball team… call Oprah. Please. What, the healing begins with middle aged, white, soccer moms? I’m sorry, I know this is going to anger some people, but I can’t think of anybody less qualified to go on and on about race than Oprah. This is a woman that spent $40 million on ONE SCHOOL in Africa. She then hand picked the girls that were “worthy” of attending this wonderful institution. Talk about making people feel worthwhile and relevant.Â
Thank you Oprah, thank you for your bravery in dealing with this issue. Thank goodness for folks like you and Al Roker who had the nerve to speak up. If it wasn’t for you, I’m sure the brave executives at MSNBC and CBS would have never fired Imus. Give me a break. The only people with less spine than corporate execs are politicians.
Here are some quotes from Oprah defending her opening of this monument to her ego in Africa:
New York, Jan 1 (ANI): Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has hit out at people who have criticised her decision to build a 40 million dollar school complex in South Africa, saying that unlike kids in America, children in the African nation yearn to learn.
In an interview with Newsweek, Winfrey revealed that she had been “frustrated” by the way American inner-circle kids did not appreciate the value of a free education, and thought the money would be better spent on kids who had a burning desire to learn, but did not have the means.
“I became so frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just isn’t there,” the New York Daily News quoted her, as telling the publication.
“If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don’t ask for money or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school,” she added.
You see folks? American kids of the inner city just aren’t worth the effort. They have no appreciation. How does this woman get away with saying this? Why is it okay for her? This is disgusting! Remember the comments about Ipods and sneakers? Get this:
“I wanted to take girls with that ‘it’ quality and give them an opportunity to make a difference in the world,” Oprah said.
Built on 22-acres of land, the complex holds a sprawling, 28-building complex, that among other things comes equipped with a yoga studio and beauty salon.
Are you one of the 3500 girls that applied for this school and was rejected? So sorry, I guess you didn’t have that “it” quality. You like inner city kids of this nation are not worthy of Oprah’s blessings. Thank goodness for the yoga studio and beauty salon… so much more worthy than an Ipod and sneakers… oh my.
I think that the black community should reject Oprah’s opportunistic use of this Imus incident. It is no better than what Sharpton and Jackson have done, in fact it may be worse. You diminish AMERICAN kids in the inner city, but you want to discuss the dimishment of these girls at Rutgers and women (especially black women) in general? Shame on you.
